Medical Museum Unit



Background of Medical museum:
Medical museum of IMU was officially opened on 21st March 2001. Presently it is accommodated within the Learning Resources centre along with the IMU Library.
The goal of setting up the medical museum was to enhance the teaching-learning activities based on an integrated concept, which is in line with the IMU Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing and Bio-medical degree curriculum. The anatomical models, mounted gross anatomy specimens, pathological specimens and charts are displayed according to the body systems. Fixed learning modules (FLMs) in hard copies on pathology (gross and histopathology), microbiology and parasitology are also available to be used by the students. There is an imaging room where radiographs and CT scan are displayed with labels and legends. Many CD ROMS, DVDs and videotapes are available on Anatomy, Genetics, Immunology, Microbiology and Pathology. Microscopic slides for learning histology and histopathology with microscopes are available for revision by the students.

Activities of Medical Museum:
1.      Medical museum sessions are integral parts of the curriculum of the different modules of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Bio-medical degree programs. The students are given structured lesson plan to self-study during the session mentioned in the time table. Resources like models, specimens, charts, microscopic slides and FLMs are provided. Ample space is available in and around the museum to accommodate the batches of students during the sessions.

5.      Some PBL sessions are held in a 40-seater mini lecture-hall attached to the museum.
